Writing Good Blog Comments – Contributing To The Conversation

Author: Blog comments are a wonderful way to indirectly promote your business or website, the operative word being indirectly. When commenting on blogs to garner attention for your site, the best way to go about doing so is by being subtle. Plastering your links and blog portfolio within a comment on a blog will do little more than give you the label of comment spammer.
When making a comment, do more than praise the author and link back to your own site with a similar post, “helpful” link, or other self-promotional attempt. Contribute to the conversation with your own opinions, insights, or explain why you agree. Choose your words carefully and thoughtfully, and the author and other readers will want to see and hear more from you.
Leave links in the URL field of the comment box, not in the text of your comment, unless you have something very important to contribute. Readers know that a hyperlinked name is a website or blog link, and they will click through to read if they think that your comment is a positive addition to the conversation.
By being a good steward in blog comments and writing thoughtful words that contribute to the conversation, you can get the attention you want without being overly promotional.
