They Were Web 2.0 Before Web 2.0 Existed
We think of trend toward more social and interactive website experiences as a new trend. People laud the communicative power of Twitter, the social networking value of FaceBook and the way sites of all sorts are doing what they can to encourage a higher degree of interactivity. What we once called Web 2.0 is now becoming the norm.
In some places, it’s been the norm since the days of 1200 baud modems and 8.5-inch floppy disks. The old bulletin board systems of yesteryear were interactive and served as a means of facilitating communication. They’re the parents of the forums and discussion boards that still remain a vibrant online force.
People don’t think about forums and boards as a “Web 2.0″ thing. In many ways, however, they are. And they also provide tremendous opportunities for savvy marketers. They’re often overlooked because they aren’t as visible as the Twitters and Facebooks of the world, but they’re one area in which small text efforts can produce significant marketing results.
