Quality In Small Places
There are times when writing well is a necessity. If you’re putting together a sales page or the homepage for your website, it’s easy to come up with a healthy list of reasons to use the best possible content. Reasonably, we don’t spend quite as much attention and care to a quick blog post or a small page that’s part of our super-thick site. No one has time to pore over the details of everything they write.
However, a mindset that assumes one can get by with just about anything when it isn’t part of a critical page is a business killer. All of your content must meet minimum standards of acceptability—even those “small text” opportunities like blog comments, forum posts and bios.
Those minimum standards include good spelling and reasonably strong grammar. Flawlessness isn’t essential, but you want every word attached to your business to reflect upon it in a positive way. When you’re making visible errors and demonstrating the carelessness associated with that practice, it’s diminishing you, your message and your opportunities.
Are you paying enough attention to the quality of your “small text”? If you’re not, today’s a great day to start. Look at your work for a moment. Proofread it. Put forth a little more effort. You’ll be happy with the results.
